Epistemology is the branch of philosophy that studies knowledge: what it is, how it is acquired, what its nature, limits, and justification are.
In other words, it asks questions such as: - What does it mean to “know” something? - How do we distinguish true knowledge from mere opinion or belief? - What are the sources of knowledge (experience, reason, intuition, etc.)? - How far can we know reality?
It is one of the fundamental disciplines of philosophy, together with metaphysics, ethics, and logic.
